If you've been frequenting job hunt websites, you'll notice that there are so many companies looking for English teachers. There is a demand for this because the global economy has been so competitive and more business tycoons want to learn English to be able to expand their global reach.

In addition to this, parents from non-English speaking countries start their kids young by enrolling them in distance learning English programs.

So, yes! There is definitely a job for you out there as an English teacher—whether online or face-to-face.

It's important to note however, that even if you're a native English speaker, because of your competition, you're going to have to revamp your résumé or CV; to ensure that you are the person who gets hired for the higher paying positions or companies. Hence, we strongly suggest you get the TEFL Certificate. This is what you'll need to make your claim as an effective English instructor stronger.

TEFL stands for Teaching English as a Foreign Language and this is a course you need to take with a corresponding test after. It doesn't only cover how to speak and teach the language better. It also:

  • Teaches important principles on how to evaluate the progress of your students;

  • Upgrades your overall understanding of the English language;

  • Makes you a more efficient educator.

TEFL Certifications Onsite At Home

Cost: $1,500 to $2,500

If TEFL were a product, we'd say this is one of the best sellers. Of course, people want to save and why would you want to spend on travel expenses when you can pursue the course in your own area. For sure, there are certified classrooms in your area which cater to this course where there is a live teacher and other students.

In fact, a lot of countries prefer onsite programs over online ones because personal, face-to-face learning setups are much more beneficial. There are countries who prefer onsite trained TEFL Certified teachers as well over those who just learned online.

With a price range of $1,500 to $2,500, you can choose from various programs that more or less, takes 4 weeks to finish.

Don't get too relaxed though, 4 weeks sounds like a short period of time but that's actually intense training right there.

If you plan to join it, you'll spend a lot of time inside the onsite classroom, really involving yourself heavily in the knowledge imparted by your trainers.

Because of the schedule constraint, a lot of English teachers who take this course take a leave from work just to focus and to be able to dedicate their time here.

It's all worth it, obviously!

TEFL Certifications Onsite Abroad

Cost: $1,000 to $2,000—plus Travel & Living Expenses Abroad

If you plan on teaching abroad, then you might as well immerse yourself in the culture of that country early on. A popular example nowadays would be South Korea. Because of how successful the economy of Korea has become, more and more Koreans, even VIPs are looking for English teachers. Onsite Korean English schools are also continuously looking for teachers. This process also helps you familiarize yourself with their local language.

It sounds fun and exciting but before booking a ticket, shall we take a look at your expenses first?

Travel Expenses - this includes airfare and the money you need to cover your Visa and Passport expenses. It's not that easy to go from one country to another, as you may know.

Housing - because you need a comfortable place to live in while studying abroad.

Daily Expenses - food, fare and other things to keep you sane while in another country.

That's a lot! But the question is, is it worth it?

We'd say only if you actually land the job. So be sure that you're serious about the training so you can bag that employment abroad. Otherwise, it would just be a waste of time, money and other resources.

IMPORTANT: The cost of TEFL Courses Abroad varies from one country to another. Usually, and obviously, if a country offers more benefits to an English teacher, the cost of the course would be more expensive as you will reap more. The trick is to apply right away after you pass the course while you're in the country. This increases your chances of actually getting the job as compared to when you would apply via a Zoom interview.

Online TEFL Certifications

Cost: $250 to $600

This is the least expensive for obvious reasons. At the comfort of your own homes, you can take a TEFL course and be certified through these online courses. It is a great option for those of you who don't really have the budget to take the physical classes yet. If you're not a risk-taker, this would be a great option for you because you'll want to see if teaching English is really your avenue before you actually decide to move out of town.

Because they're affordable, you'll find a plethora of TEFL accreditors online. Be careful because you want something that will give you the education that you deserve and paid for.

Do a background check and read reviews. Look for someone who you can trust that can vouch for a certain TEFL certification online company.

Hybrid TEFL Certifications

Cost: $300 to $1000

As the name suggests, this is a combination of online and physical TEFL training. Because the setup is more complex than the others, you'll find that a lot of these programs are different in costs. But they do have their benefits. For instance, you can spend some time at home while only travel for 1 week which is ideal for people who don't really have the liberty to leave work for that long.
